For the Mill Memories project in 2013 we interviewed 26 local residents about their memories of Brixton Windmill, the local area around the windmill, and the importance of bread and flour production.

The interviews were an oral history project funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund as part of the All Our Stories scheme. 

We also produced an exhibition and a theatrical performance, which was put on at a Big Lunch on 5 May 2014 to celebrate the Mill Memories project.

Interviewees include relatives of the original owners, the Ashbys; millwrights who worked on recent restorations; and local residents who have enjoyed and cared for the Windmill over the past 70 years.

We are grateful to all those who took the time to share their memories and photographs, and also to oral historian Sarah Lowry, who managed the project, and the wonderful group of volunteer interviewers, photographers and film-makers who were the driving force behind the work.
